You can cross out a file by double clicking on it. Every item that is NOT crossed out will attempt to load. click and drag them into the "External Files" panel in the "Launch Config" tab in ZDL. Open ZDL in desktop mode, open the location /.config/gzdoom/ folder where you placed your mods and wads. CONFIG/GZDOOM FOLDER EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO DRAG AND DROP MORE MODS TO ZDL. THE REASON FOR THIS IS BECAUSE DOLPHIN FILE MANAGER THINKS THAT YOU ARE OPENING A DESKTOP LOCATION INSTEAD OF THE ACTUAL LOCATION. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU CREATE A SHORTCUT ON THE DESKTOP IN GAMING MODE TO GET TO THIS PATH EASILY, THE FILES WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DRAG AND DROP FILES INTO ZDL FROM THIS DESKTOP SHORTCUT. Move the wads and mods into the same folder from the first step - "/home/deck/.var/app//.config/gzdoom" If you do not place them in this folder they will not work. Download the WADS and Mods you want from wherever you want. Press "Launch" at the bottom right corner of the screen to verify it boots properly. Source port dropdown will should say "org" unless you changed it. Select Doom II: Hell on Earth from the IWAD section. There should be no external files right now. Make sure that "Show file paths in lists" and "Remember External File List" are both checked as well If you do not do this, then gamescope will cause flicker when booting the game. Check off "Close on launch" option at the bottom of this window. Under the "IWADs" section, click and drag your DOOM2.wad file from the file location that you placed it in during step 1. You cannot click and drag the desktop icon here. You can find the exact file we need at: "/var/lib/flatpak/app//current/(A WHOLE FUCKTON OF CHARACTERS)/export/bin/" - click and drag this file into the "Source Ports" section and it will autopopoulate the path. You must use a specific directory for this. Under "General Settings" tab is where we will be placing our GZDoom flatpak "executable" file. Open QZDL executable after you have copied it to your documents folder. Flatpaks can only access certain directories and I have verified documents to work. Copy the QZDL file that was within the extracted archive to your documents folder. Extract the QZDL archive from the github link at the top of this post. Steps for Installing QZDL to manage mods. If you still have an error that qzdoom cannot find any iwads then you placed the Doom 2 wad in the wrong spot. If you placed more than 1 iwad you will get a window asking you which iwad you want to boot. You cannot put these files anywhere else or qzdoom will not see them or launch them. Note that this will also be the location you can put other IWADS (Such as Freedoom, Freedoom 2, Doom 1 etc.) as well as your mods and wads. You cannot put them anywhere else qzdoom or the program will not see them. Copy and past the "DOOM2.WAD" file into the file path from the first step. Download Doom or Doom 2 from steam or grab the wad file from whichever legally acquired source you have access to. You may have to create the gzdoom folder at the end of the path. Some time and basic dolphin file manager principles I've not gotten any other loaders to work. I've tried using DoomRunner but it doesn't scale properly and you can't hit the "launch" button since it pours out of the screen area on deck. QZDL (QZDoom Loader) - Download the Linux 64bit Release Yes you must use QZDL. There are lots of caveats to some of the things you need to do and must do some things in specific orders. I'm making this post because I want to help other people who want to easily play and swap between many Doom mods and wads without much hassle. Turns out, this is a lot more complicated to do on Steam Deck than I originally anticipated, and so I have wasted my Saturday so you don't have to. This allows it so you never have to fuck with your controls after you've added it to steam, no matter how many mods or combinations you want to play. This is fine until you want to modhop and if you make multiple non-steam app entries on steam deck, you have to reset your controls for every entry. The problem is that a lot of posts about this just tell you to add launch parameters to qzdoom to launch specific wads. I wanted to do this on steam deck, I'm used to just dragging and dropping the files onto the qzdoom. I jump between lots of different wads and mods a lot. I am a person who loves Doom and Doom 2 mods.
